A Journey to Medieval times – The Texas Renaissance Festival.

I don’t have a time machine, but if you want to transport yourself into the era of the late 5th century to early 6th century of brave knights, honorable kings, meticulous magicians, evil villains, beautiful fairies and called out “Hello, ma lady!”  The Texas Renaissance festival is the perfect experience in bringing alive the medieval times.

The festival runs from ending of September to the last week of November and consists of nine different theme weekends you can choose from to create your adventurous experience.

I had an amazing time attending the “Barbarian weekend” theme with a group of friends. So if you are willing to save money, try paying for the ‘4 pass adult tickets’. The festival gives you the opportunity to rent, buy or make your own costumes. My costume was made by me, which took me a whole week sitting behind a sewing machine. I went for the theme ‘The African maiden’ and trust me a lot of people loved it and asked for pictures with me.

So I know you are wondering “What can I do at the Texas renaissance festival? “.

I have 10 top tips for fun things you can experience OR memories you can create for yourself at the festival.

  1. To Experience: Festival games – Just like every festival, if you love to play games, there are varieties of choices to choose from.

2. Memories to create: Weddings – Ever dreamt of a bohemian wedding with a touch of mid-summer night dream theme? Look no further because the renaissance festival gives the perfect enchanted setup.

The Rose Garden wedding chapel creates the perfect scenario for a fairy tale wedding. The red carpet, to the well-arranged garden décor, you will be walking down the aisle like true royalty.

3. To Experience: The polish pub – A laughter a day keeps the doctor away. If you believe in this, then let’s cheer to good health at the polish pub. The jokes are super hilarious, but remember to take along earbuds when bringing the kids.

4. Memories to create: Camping – Get into your Robin Hood Character, and let your friends play your ‘Men in tights’ sitting around the campfire telling stories. The festival gives you access to a safe camping environment during the weekend. You can set up your tents and enjoy your campfire meal. This also gives you the opportunity to participate in the ‘After Dark’ activities.

5. To Experience: The king’s court – A kingdom will not be complete without the battle of the king’s finest knights. This for me is one of the grand shows at the festival which is worth experiencing

6. Memories to create: Go on a Date – Are you planning a romantic date? If yes, enter the secret garden and explore the enchanted forest with beautiful flowers, water fountains, and Secret romantic corners to sit and relax.

Whether you are thinking about taking some pictures for your social media accounts or having that special kiss on your date, this is a good place to make it happen.

7. To Experience: Festival Music – Enjoy the tune of Medieval music. It gives that feeling of celebration. These instruments are very uplifting and creates an atmosphere of freedom, good times and thanksgiving.

8. Memories to create: Shopping – Shop for the best gifts for yourself and one loves choosing from various unique and beautiful gift pieces.

9. To Experience: Magic shows – Watch the magicians perform specular tricks with fire, entertaining the crowd with their amazing performance. Be generous enough to tip at the end of every show, it’s called encouragement for a work well done.

10. Memories to create: The food – A festival without good food is no festival to attend. Explore your taste buds and check out the local food shops. Feast like a king trying the juicy Turkey legs, delicious burger, fresh lemonade, ice tea and lots more.

Last notes For Saving tips

  • Save ticket money – Save tickets with friends by purchasing the ‘4 Adult ticket pass’ ONLY ONLINE. Payless and enjoy more.

  • Take cash, Not card – Take extra cash in your wallet. Everything at the festival is paid with cash only. The ATM’s charges about 10 dollars each time you withdraw cash. So remember to take enough cash with you.

  • Extra Water bottle – The moment you know 500ml bottle water cost like 3 dollars, be smart in bringing your water bottle along with you. Stay hydrated.
